PAST, PRESENT AND FUTURE ..
Rail enthusiasts were out in force on the morning of April 23rd, to witness a historic sight as the past, present and future of British rail travel joined forces.
The iconic steam locomotive the Flying Scotsman lined up alongside three other diesel and electric of trains on the East Coast Main Line at Tollerton, North Yorkshire.
The Scotsman, alongside an HST and InterCity 225 from Virgin Trains' current fleet, as well as one of the operator's new Azuma trains, which come into service next year, made a slow journey south to York Station.
The four generations of trains left the Tollerton junction at 6am and travelled side by side for ten miles in a celebration of the past, present and future of rail travel. The quartet arrived at its destination at 8am, where hundreds of eager enthusiasts lined the safety boundaries in attempt to catch a glimpse of the once in a lifetime.
